Winter Weather Policy



Just like a lot of you out there, our curbside-collection crew is gearing up for work in the inclement weather and will be there rain, snow or shine to make sure your garbage is picked up on schedule, as always.

Very few things can stop our guys from making their regular rounds on the highways and back roads of our towns and we are proud to maintain a standard of excellent customer care, regardless of the weather. However, we do have a few policies in place that ensure our drivers make it home safely every night and that our trucks never contribute to roadway hazards or accidents. Our policy applies mostly to our most rural customers in areas such as Big Bend. However, depending on the severity of the weather, this policy could apply to anyone.

At Burney Disposal, Inc., we take the safety of our fellow community members very seriously and, as the snow begins to fly, we want to be sure you understand our policies and procedures for inclement weather.

Our garbage trucks weigh approximately 30,000 lbs. and are extremely top heavy. In treacherous road conditions, our trucks could become stuck causing road congestion or damage. Also, in icy conditions our trucks may slide or tip, which produces a potentially life-threatening hazard for motorists, pedestrians and our drivers.

Because we care about our customers and their neighbors as well as our employees, we have adopted a winter-weather policy to protect all of us while maintaining the level of excellent service that our customers have come to expect.

To better understand our winter-service guidelines and eliminate as much confusion as possible, please be aware of the following winter-weather policy:

  1. Your drivers will start at 9 a.m. if conditions appear snowy or icy. The later start time will allow road maintenance crews to clear the way for our trucks.
  2. Should your drivers still deem the road too unsafe, they may elect to:
    1. Come back later in the day once the road conditions clear up.
    2. If hazardous conditions persist, give you a snow-credit for the missed day and pick up the equivalent of 2 weeks trash the next week at no additional charge.

This policy is our way of striving to compensate you for any inconvenience you may experience as a result of a weather-related service delay.

As always, we will strive to provide all of our customers with uninterrupted weekly service. However, we will also continue our commitment to your safety and that of your neighbors and our drivers when bad weather hits the Intermountain area.
